Welcome to Jan McCorkle's Half-Day Kindergarten Class!
I am Jan McCorkle, the half-day kindergarten teacher here at St. Paul Catholic School and have been such for the last twenty-three years. I strive to treat each child as a unique individual. I encourage my children to do their personal best. Should a mistake be made, it is no big deal; we will practice and learn from our mistakes.
I try to make learning fun and interesting whether we are doing paperwork, hands-on, or role-playing. As our class works as a team, I preach and teach the Golden Rule. I am an avid reader and try to pass my love of books and reading to my class. I teach a strict phonics reading program. We will even write a three- sentence paragraph.
Promise is our weekly religion pamphlet that breaks the gospel down to our kindergarten level with other lessons and gospel-related activities. Addition and subtraction is what we work up to in math. Printing numbers up to one hundred is also an end-of-year skill. We also do social studies, science, gym, music, and art. Computer class and library is taught at the big school each Thursday and Friday after we attend the 8:00 A.M. Mass. We go on field trips with Mrs. Shane's full-day kindergarten class and other grades as well.
